You can choose how you want to use SOLO Server to add and distribute licenses. Your customers will need to obtain a license to activate your application, and you control how licenses are created and distributed.
Each license generated in SOLO Server has a numeric License ID and alphanumeric Activation Password. The License ID and Activation Password needs to be provided to the customer so that they can activate your application. SOLO Server will validate the License ID and Activation Password they enter and activate your application with the proper entitlements.

SOLO Server's integrated e-Commerce fully automates product/license sales and distribution. It also supports automatically recurring subscriptions, which are becoming increasingly popular. You only need to supply a compatible merchant account and payment gateway so you can accept credit cards as a method of payment. You would also want a brochure website that links to your SOLO Server storefront. When purchasing a product/license, a customer will register their contact information and then complete the checkout process for the license(s) they want. The customer will automatically receive their License ID(s) and Activation Password(s) by email once the purchase has been processed successfully.
Companies that already have fully functioning e-Commerce solutions or, for whatever reasons, do not wish to sell their software products online, can still benefit from the multitude of license management features available with the use of SOLO Server. The author interface and/or web services can be used to create the licenses, and then you can choose to distribute them in a way that best suits your needs.
